Tamtron
One Cloud — Evolving a core digital platform.

The challenge

Tamtron develops weighing solutions for demanding industrial applications, including on-board weighing systems and scales for wheel loaders, forestry machines, excavators and other work machines. At the heart of its digital offering is One Cloud, a cloud service that brings weighing data together and enables users to manage scales, customers and sites, create reports and connect weighing data with other business systems.

One Cloud had evolved organically over time, with new capabilities added as customer and business needs emerged. As the platform grew, some inconsistencies in the user experience and information architecture had emerged, creating an opportunity for a more coherent overall experience and a clear direction for the future.

Tamtron turned to Forge Digital to research, define and design the next generation of One Cloud.

Understanding the users and the business

The project started with stakeholder interviews involving Tamtron's sales and R&D teams across different markets, as well as end users working in forestry and earthmoving.

The research confirmed that One Cloud already had a strong foundation. Users appreciated the reliability and accuracy of Tamtron's weighing data, traceability, remote access, integrations and the ability to monitor their weighing operations through the cloud.

At the same time, the research revealed clear opportunities to make the experience more consistent and intuitive. Users identified areas where navigation, reporting, data visibility and administration could be made easier, while real-time information and clearer dashboards emerged as important opportunities for the future.

The research also highlighted the importance of keeping the experience simple. Users wanted a modern and lightweight interface where everyday tasks were straightforward and more advanced functionality could remain available without making the core experience unnecessarily complex.

UNDERSTANDING THE USERS AND THE BUSINESS

Defining what comes next

Following the research, Forge Digital and Tamtron brought the findings together in a prioritization workshop.

The workshop provided a shared view of the most important user needs, business objectives and opportunities for development. Together, we defined the scope for the new One Cloud and established which capabilities should be addressed in the next generation of the platform.

This ensured that the design work was not simply a visual refresh, but was based on a clear understanding of where One Cloud could create the most value.

DEFINING WHAT COMES NEXT

Designing the new
One Cloud

With the direction established, Forge Digital moved into the design phase.

We designed the new One Cloud's look and feel, feature set and navigation logic, with the goal of creating a more coherent, intuitive and scalable experience while preserving the strengths of the existing platform.

The work was built on the design system Forge Digital had previously created for Tamtron. This provided an established foundation of reusable components, design principles and visual patterns, allowing the new platform to be designed rapidly while maintaining consistency with Tamtron's broader digital ecosystem.

The project therefore also demonstrated the value of a mature design system: once the foundations are in place, new digital products can be developed faster and more consistently without starting the design process from scratch.

DESIGNING THE NEW CLOUD

Close collaboration and iterative development

The work progressed iteratively, with Forge Digital and Tamtron working closely throughout the project. Ideas, concepts and designs were continuously reviewed and refined together, allowing feedback from the customer and the research to directly influence the outcome.

This close collaboration helped turn a broad ambition for a new One Cloud into a concrete and shared vision for the platform.

CLOSE COLLABORATION AND ITERATIVE DEVELOPMENT

The result

The project was completed on time and under budget, with all agreed objectives achieved.

For Tamtron, the outcome was a clear direction and thoroughly researched concept for the future One Cloud — combining a renewed user experience with a prioritized feature set and a scalable foundation for future development.

For Forge Digital, the project demonstrated how combining user research, strategic prioritization, UX design and a mature design system can help industrial companies continuously evolve complex digital services while building on the strengths of what already exists.
