About PRO24.
Protect’s PRO24 is a modular HSEQ management system platform (SaaS) that has been enabling systematic safety management for Finnish and international customers since 2009. The system supports ISO 9001/14001/45001-aligned quality, environmental and occupational-safety processes and offers plug-and-play modules for risk assessment, deviation and observation management, training and chemical management. The PRO24 Chemicals module provides a register of chemicals together with their Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) to ensure compliant, safe handling and chemical-risk assessment across the customer’s operations.
Project goals.
Protect maintains a central chemical database that customers can draw from to build their own registers and generate risk assessments and personal protective equipment (PPE) instructions. As the database has grown extensively, manual maintenance has become time-consuming and inefficient. The objective was to minimise human fingerprints in the update flow by partially automating maintenance.
Solution.
Forge and Protect co-created an AI-driven Safety Data Sheet reader that now feeds structured data straight into the PRO24 Chemicals register.
Forge designed and built an AI-based solution to automatically extract chemical safety data from the provided chemical safety data sheets. The solution was built on Microsoft Azure harnessing Azure AI to process incoming chemical safety data sheet documents and extract the meaningful information. The solution provided an easy-to-use API, which enabled seamless integration into the existing systems. The solution also included views for quality inspection to ensure precise outcome. Protect’s own development team handled the integration into PRO24.
Results.
The solution has lifted a considerable amount of manual work and streamlined maintenance of the chemical database. The process is now partially automated, enabling Protect to guarantee up-to-date information for all its customers.
